A native of the Washington, DC area, Marilyn Witkowski earned a BA degree in Studio Art from University of Maryland College Park. Soon after, she began working in display advertising at the Village Voice newspaper in New York City—a move that led to a successful advertising career where she directed marketing strategy and oversaw the creative development of promotional materials for several large for-profit and nonprofit organizations.
Still Marilyn kept her passion for painting and drawing. While working full-time and raising two children, she began painting portraits on commission in 1978. A few years ago she re-evaluated her priorities, retired from her 25-year career in marketing and communications, and directed her energy into painting. Within a very short time, Marilyn was asked to do new portrait paintings on commission and began painting other subject matter too. To further her art and design capabilities, Marilyn has spent the last few years studying printmaking, digital photography, photo editing and restoration, graphic design, typography, and digital illustration.
In 2011, Marilyn relocated to south Florida where she is pursuing her dream of creating meaningful artworks and communications using her art, copywriting, and design skills. She is currently working on new paintings, screen-printed works on paper, and digital Illustrations. Commissions in a variety of mediums are welcomed. See Shop page for details.

Splashing Around 1952, 2009
Acrylic on canvas, 30 X 38 in.
“Inspired by a black and white photo taken of me at Chesapeake Beach, Maryland in 1952, I tried to recapture my wonderful memories of the beach, the big black inner tubes that were so common then, and the feeling of just splashing around."
